The Original Life Cycles™ - Bike Building Philanthropic Teambuilding

The 'team building' paradigm was forever changed in 2000 when Odyssey invented Life Cycles - the orginal bike buiding, build a bike program. More than 100,000 employees of the worlds largest organizations have built in excess of 20,000 bikes for children while transforming the way they think about 'work'.

Life Cycles is a perfect example of the ripple effect that comes from "paying it forward." Through the 'Life Cycle' of creating something valuable and passing it on, your team will experience firsthand the influence their actions, integrity, attention and intention have on their work. They’ll recognize their impact on the lives of their co-workers, customers and community. And they’ll discover how much they get in return from the simple act of giving.

Life Cycles™ available in the followin formats:

Customer-Centric Teamwork – driving value through increased customer commitment. In today’s world of compartmentalization and bureaucracy, it’s easy to lose sight of the customer. We aim to reinvigorate that connection. The question then becomes how quickly and effectively can your team engage with the value of their work and its benefit to the broader community? If the competition wins this race, you’ll lose market share, and the loss of your team’s critical morale will make your customers seem even more distant.

What you do together as a team depends on how you are together as individuals. This means that the value you provide to your customers relies on your team’s ability to connect with the broader goals and values you all share. During Life Cycles – Customer-Centric Teamwork, you will gain a deeper understanding of how your individual and team goals intersect to create a more powerful customer experience.

Collaboration and Team Engagement - lessons for making teamwork work

Ever feel like there is just too much to do and not enough time? Too many layers, departments, and silos to truly collaborate?

After the assembly of the bicycles, participants identify the major benefits of your company’s products/services, and they discuss the top three things they can do to improve collaboration and employee engagement.

Customized Thematic Integration

We’ll work with you to integrate applicable themes and organizational values through the Life Cycles experience for a truly transformational event.

When participants get the message in their bones, they emerge with a new level of commitment, and the impact of your meeting will stick with them long after the program ends.

Other Life Cycles info:

  • Experience matters: We've got it in our bones with more than 17 years of business experience facilitating programs for more than 200,000 participants in 21 countries.
  • Tried and true process: We begin with experiential assessments like 'Change Now' and 'Pressure Points' to assess adaptability, responsiveness to change, problem-solving skills and collaboration. The stage is then set for the 'product' simulation when the teams construct brand-new bicycles. The building of the bikes mirrors workplace constraints through limited time, tools, and expertise. To fulfill the 'Life Cycle' and put an exclamation point on the experience, we bring in children to receive the brand new bikes built by your team. Most have never had their own bicycle before. With the wide-eyed faces of children now part of the mix, the 'simulation' transcends into something real. Something impactful. Something emotional.

  • Keep the secret - No need for participants to know about kids or bikes.
  • Top of the line equipment and 5 to 1 participant to product ratios: - Five participants build a top-of-the-line Diamondback bicycle – complete with helmet and lock.
  • Liability protection and quality assurance: - We hire expert bike technicians from local bike shops and bring them on-site to inspect and wrench-on every part, ensuring quality and safety.
  • Concurrent Life Skills development session for the children: - We conduct a concurrent session for the children while your team assembles their bikes. They learn relevant life skills during their own ‘teambuilding’ session.
  • Process, values and thematic integration: No one takes your team's values and brings them to life through experiences and discussions like Odyssey does during your Life Cycles program. Pre-program consultation is included as part of every Odyssey workshop.
  • Follow-up: The Odyssey Tipping Points™ process extends the shelf life of the event dramatically by reminding participants regularly of the lessons that shaped their unique experience.
  • Metrics and assessments: Inquire about incorporating the Denison Culture Survey (http://www.denisonconsulting.com/dc/) to measure specific cultural traits in your team that impact the bottom line. Additional costs apply.
