Put Me In Coach - David Kniffin
David Kniffin is more than a coach - he’s a philosopher, mentor, and master of meaningful leadership. As Head Coach of UC Irvine Men’s Volleyball, David uses the game as a vehicle to teach far more than sport. With the highest number of players in the smallest space of any team sport, volleyball demands precision, adaptability, and relentless communication - just like life. And David makes that connection clear.
Raised in Chico, California, David answered the call to leadership early. He rose to the top as both a player and coach - earning NCAA Coach of the Year honors in 2013 after winning a national championship in his first season at the helm. In 2015, he led the USA World Team in South Korea, and from 2004–2006, he played professionally for CAI Teruel in Spain, capturing a national title in 2006.
But accolades only tell part of the story. David is a parent, husband, friend, and lifelong learner whose calm presence and sharp insights make every conversation feel like a masterclass. His take on teamwork, human behavior, and the deeper lessons of sport is not just worth hearing - it’s worth living.
