School Is In Session - Mike Walsh
In this episode of You Go First, Lain Hensley sits down with Mike Walsh—a lifelong advocate for public education and a visionary leader in school governance. The conversation explores Walsh’s personal journey, what drew him into education policy, and his perspective on the future of California’s schools.
Walsh served as President of the California School Boards Association, representing nearly 1,000 school districts and county offices of education across the state. A seven-year veteran of the Butte County Office of Education Board, he was elected to CSBA’s Delegate Assembly in 2010 and joined the Board of Directors in 2011.
A proud 1982 graduate of Las Plumas High School, Walsh recalls his perfect attendance and active involvement in sports and student government as early signs of his commitment to leadership and service.
In 2015, he co-founded Beacon Results, a change management firm that helps school districts and nonprofits align their strategic plans and drive meaningful growth. Walsh’s insights are grounded in experience, fueled by purpose, and aimed at creating a better future for students and educators alike.
